Handkerchiefs, right? For me, yes, they have been the next logical step along our path towards reducing paper-waste.
First went the paper napkins in exchange for cloth. Then went the paper towels in exchange for dish towels. Now this. I thought my leap away from Kleenex and towards more fabric would feel old fashioned and, ah, unhygienic.
On the contrary, the new handkerchiefs and carrying case I sewed up on my machine are soft, clean, smell like fabric softener, and are fully washable. I am hooked and I think those old-fashioned folks were definitely on to something.
I found this site's tutorials for both the handkerchiefs and the case a good starting point. If you're not the sewing type but want to enhance future nose-blowing, tear-wiping, and hand drying experiences, the Vermont Country Store is a source for hankies your grandparents would probably approve of!
