Mid-August Lunch

Last night Ryan and I went on an impromptu date to Living Room Theaters for happy hour & a movie. We saw Mid-August Lunch and I can't recommend it enough. The film, set in Italy, presents a man busier than a one-armed paper hanger caring for a group of lovely but high-maintenance elderly women during the peek of vacation season. It is sweet and sentimental and believable, a classic film offering a glimpse into everyday Italian life. Go see it!

And as a side note, my office designed Living Room Theaters and it really is a gem of a place. If you go, take a date and send him into the restroom to wash his hands at the same time you go to wash yours for an unsettling optical illusion...

Away We Go

It's a good movie. Dave Eggers co-wrote it. Robert Ebert says its a film nice people should see. You should see it. (Did I just call you nice?)

Who knew!?!

Good news, people. Did you know you can have your shoes polished, old-school style, in the men's shoe department of Nordstroms?

I walked in today at lunch and left 10 minutes later with shiny mary janes, just like new! The cost is $2.50 and its like getting a pedicure, only in a manly way.

What an affordable luxury. The guy even put a protective shield over my socks so they wouldn't get polished, too. I'm taking my red ones in next week.

New territory

Meet my new favorite model. I've never had a favorite model before. Favorite pair of pants? Yes. Favorite color? Yeah, yellow. Favorite model? Not until today, friends.

We met in the new Anthropologie October 08 catalogue. To be honest, I don't feel like she's meeting her full potential there (I didn't tell her that). Some of the outfits they have her in seem to mock her lovlieness. They are silly and stand in contrast to the elegance she exudes.

And, also, where in the name of sam hill is that photo shoot location? I want to vacation there by the ice and old barns, where it snows on the beach. Yes.

Ryan's comment: "Good lord." What he's thinking, and has told me many times before but is keeping to himself for some reason right now is, "You're a dork." I can't help it.

One for the Road

Friends, thanks for stopping by! I intended to send out my blog announcement email to you all after I return from the beach next week but got confused and excited, hitting the send button early.

And here we are, with one more update before I really do leave town.

You may want to take a seat for this one. Word on the street is Martha Stewart, lifestyle guru, is not welcome in England. Yes. It’s because of her jail record, you see. Read more about it here.

Naturally, there’s always two sides to a story. Martha mentions it on her own blog, citing visa issues as the root of the problem. Hmmm.

I love a good drama.

Adios for now!
