It was cold, it was sometimes rainy, and yeah, it snowed once. But all in all, the weekend was a most-fabulous escape.
We're home feeling rested and rejuvenated and inspired. Here are our highlights.
LODGING
- Sylvia Beach Hotel, Nye Beach (Newport)
FOOD & DRINK
- (breakfast @ hotel)
- lunch @ Hawk Creek Cafe, Neskowin Beach - dinner menu looked good, too
- drinks & blues music @ Mundo Cafe, Nye Beach (Newport) - great patio for summer weather
- lunch @ Village Bistro & Deli, Nye Beach (Newport) - fresh bread, hunks of cheese, sliced deli meat
- dinner, Irish music, stimulating conversation @ Nana's Irish Pub, Nye Beach (Newport)
Other restaurants we'd like to try next time:
- Local Ocean
- The Whale's Tale (an old favorite)
- Cafe Stephanie (we're told the fresh tuna steak sandwich is out of this world)
SITES
- Ghost Forest of ancient tree roots, Neskowin Beach - best seen in winter at low tide
- Wine tasting @ Flying Dutchman Winery, adjacent to Devil's Punchbowl
- Seal Rock, where the oldest seal fossil was recently uncovered (27 million years young)
- Hatfield Marine Science Center, Newport
