Yesterday was Ryan's actual birthday (stop with the questions - we celebrate his birthday on & off for the whole month!) and it was acknowledged properly with a visit to Green Dragon, a swing by Integrity Spirits tasting room, and a walk through Peacock Lane.
The Green Dragon was the Green Dragon. And Peacock Lane was its usual mix of slow-as-molasses- crowds, bright lights, yelling and whistling police officers directing foot and vehicular traffic (ahh, the holidays), and an apropos saxophone player. But Integrity Spirits, that was a treat. Our group arrived in phases, and when I got there the first thing I noticed was that the folks working there (all four of them) had clearly been indulging in the fruits of their labor all evening. It was festive. Sweet treats were set out. Music was blasting (with a strange interlude of serious and sorrowful Irish pub songs that took us back to our honeymoon). And the liquids were pouring. By the end of it, we all felt like long-lost friends who were destined to be together. And then the spontaneous dance party erupted, difficult to photograph but memorable all the same.

It wasn't until later in the evening when I got home I realized that our Integrity friends had been having their holiday party when we walked in, and that our experience there was the exception, not the norm. And I was oddly relieved to know they don't spend every night of their lives liven' it up. Anyway, good times.
