Vaca on the Brain

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about vacation. OK. I’m always thinking a lot about vacation. Why can’t we be like the French & work fewer hours? Or like the Spanish and honor the siesta? Why? These questions plague me.

I’ve told you before about my ideal day, one spent doing nothing but sewing, napping, reading, & cooking. I could do that every day. It would be an extended vacation of sorts.

Through books & magazines, other peoples’ travels, Globe Trekker, and good old fashion imagination, I am constantly inspired to plan potential future trips. I even have travel folders filled with places to stay, where to eat, and what to see, all collated with titles ranging from the very specific to fairly vague. Check it out: NYC: Spring 2007 graduation present (didn’t happen, by the way), Hawaii, Christmas in Paris, Nature Retreats, and Angel Falls, Venezuela. There’s even one among the group called Vacation Packing Tips. I do like to be prepared and well organized as you may know.

In one short week I will be on vacation at the beach, a place we always return to, almost ritualistically. It’s my own personal pilgrimage. Until then, I must put my nose to the grind stone (is that how the saying goes?). I have family coming in on Wednesday, a work dinner on Thursday, and a deadline on Friday.

For now, as I daydream about vacations I want to take and those that I know I will soon, I leave you to daydream with me over a few of the places on my must-go-to/all-time-favorites list.

Wild Spring Guest Habitat, South Oregon Coast

Moby Dick Hotel, Willapa Bay, Washington

Under the Eves B&B, Zion, Utah – ah, Zion, possibly my favorite place ever

Verana, Boca de Tomatlan, Mexico (YES, someone please take me here)

Ojo Del Mar, Costa Rica (we are going here later this year for Ryan’s 30th birthday)
