What is the perfect weekend trip?

I felt this question was personally directed at me when I saw it. Like the person asking had me in mind. What the question was really saying (in my mind, that is) is: go ahead and post something, anything, on that now dusty and neglected blog of yours that’s been sitting, waiting for more than a few months, un-launched.

So nevermind the links that don’t go anywhere. The graphics that have no excuse for being so, ah, un-designed. And the suggestion that this place will be one where Ryan & I share our idle thoughts & interests. I haven’t run that idea by him yet…

The point is, I’ve been motivated to write! I’m brushing aside my list of potential blog themes I’ve been mulling over (architecture? food? the vacations I drool over?). For this, my first real post, I will indulge in a little day dreaming about the perfect getaway weekend.

A fun weekend trip for me is one in which we head for the beach. Always, always, we go to the same sweet A-frame cabin right close to the water, where the sand dunes, ocean & sky line up to form one great big textured plain.

The house is not much to look at from the outside, but its beautiful all the same, you know? Simple, modest. Bright with light and cozy on the inside. There’s a wall of glass. A fireplace. A view from the loft. A window in the bathroom to feel & hear & smell the fresh ocean air.

Ryan is always there, naturally. We cook good food. Exfoliate our feet on the sand (essential, really). Invite close friends. Take running starts up the sand dune to get to the beach. Have fancy dinners out. Hike up to the lighthouse. Climb down to the sea lion caves.

There’s a tide pool where, when the timing’s right, one can discover all sorts of purple & orange starfish and other small sea critters. And if you’re really lucky, I mean really lucky, plus early, there are sand dollars to be had.

Every time, I come home feeling relaxed and right with the world. We are heading there again in a few short weeks and I can hardly wait.

By the way, as I type, Ryan sits across from me, also typing. His topic (not so fun): Seismic Activity on Mt. Etna.

Welcome to the world of Blog. TravelinOma is my inspiration also. She was my friend in high school and is an amazing blogger. Most bloggers are young like you. Oma and I are old-timers.

Keep writing. Good Luck.
