Reflections on a Major Bummer

After spending several frustrating hours on the phone brainstorming, negotiating, and pleading today, we [Ryan] confirmed our Mexicana flight down to Costa Rica has been cancelled. Our only option is to have the tickets refunded. I don't like being offered only one option. We've looked at re-purchasing the tickets through other airlines but they cost much more than the original flights did.

Now we are in a scramble to cancel our other hotel and airline reservations and recoup as much of our deposits as possible without incurring cancellation fees. This is where it gets fun.

Its funny, we're so wrapped up in recovering our losses we haven't had time to mourn our vacation. No celebrating Ryan's 30th birthday, and Christmas, in a lush tropical wonderland, suspended between beautiful beaches and the most ecologically diverse rainforest in the world. No lazy lounging in hammocks, reading and dozing. No outdoor showering, something I was so looking forward to. So long, fare well, bon voyage. Sigh.

This one is out of our hands. At this point I think the best thing to do is to let go of the envisioned journey, accept the potential for lost deposits (gulp), and be open to an alternative, and possibly better, plan.

The good, the bad, and the ugly, all a part of the great Adventure.
