Wowza

Wow is all I can say looking back on our truly grand and magnificent weekend. Northwestern Washington State, Skagit Valley on the Puget Sound to be exact, is the most enchanting, breathtaking, stunning place either of us has ever been.

The sunsets, both nights, were brilliant in their orangey -ness and drama. The moon was full and out for all to see, messing with the tide cycle. Canoers peacefully glided in the moonlight, when the tide was highest. The weather offered perfect relief from the Portland heat. Amtrak, flying by on the tracks close to our cabin, glowed in the night as we watched silently from the porch.

And the wedding celebration. Oh, the celebration. It came together beautifully: people, ambiance, food & drink, music, candlelight. I loved the crowd – truly a gathering of folks from the pacific northwest: there were gracefully aging hippies, craftsmen & artists, islanders, campers, little ones, sweet grandparents, loving parents, and lots of friends, new & old. Abby & Mike were stunning, both of them relaxed, funny, engaged (more than I was at my wedding), and seemingly enjoying the party of family and friends more than anyone else. As it should be.

This weekend will go down in the record book of memories as something close to perfect. Hopefully this buzz of discovering something new & lovely (Skagit Valley) and of spending a splendid few days celebrating will carry us relaxed and inspired into the coming workweek.
