Possible pairings

Friends, I'm back after a several-day hiatus. What can I say? I've been distracted in equal parts by deadlines at work, a cold that just won't quit, and the fifth season of the Wire (in which Omar is on the hunt, solo, with a broken leg; I'm nervous for his safety).

Now, home from a few hours at work this morning and a trip to the fabric store, I have the afternoon stretching ahead of me to kick this cold and possibly sew some.

Above are the goodies I found at the grand & glorious Fabric Depot. They are intended for a few baby kimonos I will be making for my friend Nicole over the next several days. I was having trouble finding gender-neutral fabrics that weren't too bold in color (red, black) or graphic (cowboys/girls, circus, ABCs) and was thrilled to discover a few soft & subtle bolts over in the Shirting section (as in fabric for men's oxford button-down, take-to-the-dry cleaners shirts) that will work as nice solids to line the prints.

Wish me luck, as I will also be experimenting with my new bias tape maker. Love new gadgets.

But first, I must enjoy a bowl of orange jello with a dab of whipped cream. I'll be back in a bit to exhibit the kimono wraps and to give you one of my favorite recipes of all time. Ciao!
