The [day] dream journal

Can July truly be all but a memory at this point!?! Where does time go!?! Where? I've been so sad to see the fall line of clothes peeking through store front windows already. No! It's still summer, I want to yell. Humph...

Anyway, I've been inspired to start a Dream Journal. Not sure where its going to lead, or if I'll keep it up, but I find myself all too often day dreaming about things (trips I want to take, vegetables I want to plant, gifts I want to make, cabins near the shore I want to design...). Now, day dreaming at home, or in the park, or at the coffee shop is perfectly acceptable. But day dreaming at work or when Ryan & I are talking about major life changes are not appropriate times to let my imagination wonder.

Also, often I find myself sharing those "dreams" (aka plans or schemes - ha!) with uninterested, unsympathetic, or anxious ears. When this happens, whatever high I'm on from my big idea vanishes faster than it appeared.

Where am I going with all this? I think I need to channel my imagination, to document it, to set aside a time every day to indulge it. This way, I won't find myself in the awkward position of sketching out a sewing project on a sticky note while my boss silently stands over my shoulder, wondering where those pesky roof details are.

One other thought on the matter. When I started my career as an architect, I felt drained of all creativity. I wasn't inspired to make things at home because my creative juices were being tapped at work. One co-worker suggested this meant I'd found my true calling, that work was so fulfilling I had no need to do it outside of the office. Yosa, my dear friend, kindly disagreed. She thought that work should inspire people's lives, not drain them. What do you think (or is the answer obvious?)??

I'm off. To dream about the guy & gal wedding shower we're piecing together for one of our favorite couples this weekend. We also have a house guest, Ruby the Wonder Dog, who will be staying with us for a few days (Misha has no idea what she's in for).

Happy Friday! I’ll be back in a few days to share the happenings.

PS - Again, one of Ryan's professors is on PBS right now talking about fecal particles. This always happens. I bet one day it will be him up there on the screen, taking about science-related business.
